The installation or retrofitting of windows must be carried out by an Approved Window Contractor. An approved window contractor is a company or firm registered with the BCA Contractors Registry under the regulatory workhead RW01.
Builder
The installation of windows can also be carried out by a builder. A builder is a company or firm registered with the BCA Contractors Registry under the general builder workhead GB1 or GB2.
Duties
An approved window contractor or a builder must:
- Carry out window works in compliance with the objectives and performance requirements (i.e. SS212) set out in the Building Control Regulations.
- Submit the certificate of completion of works (i.e. Form D) no later than 14 days after the completion of window works.
Failure to do so may result in a penalty of up to $5,000 or jail term of up to six months or to both.
