Window Retrofitting

The retrofitting of windows is to be carried out by an Approved Window Contractor and trained window installer.

Who can retrofit/repair/replace windows

  • A trained window installer who is a director, partner, sole proprietor or employee of an approved window contractor
  • Staff under the supervision or guidance of a trained window installer (as above)

An unauthorised installer may face a penalty of up to $5,000 or jail term of up to six months or to both.

Retrofitting requirements

The approved window contractor and trained window installer must retrofit the casement window by replacing all aluminium rivets at the variable geometry stays with stainless steel rivets of type 304 complying with BS EN 10088 or equivalent. Failure to do so may result in a penalty of up to $5,000 or jail term of up to six months or to both.

Retrofitting/Rectification report

After completion of retrofitting/rectification works, approved window contractors must fill, sign and pass the retrofitting/rectification report to the homeowners or building owner.
