BuildSG LEAD: Shaping the next generation of Built Environment Leaders

To groom the next generation of leaders, BCA works closely with firms in the sector to identify young and talented professionals who exude leadership qualities and passion. These include:

• Future Leaders—Industry scholars who are currently studying or have graduated from a BE course and are pursuing a BE career

• Young Leaders—Promising high-potential individuals nominated by their firms 

A robust suite of activities is organised throughout the year to support their growth. 

These activities are designed to deepen industry knowledge, expand professional networks, and support leadership growth—all anchored in the principles of built environment leadership development.

Annual BE Leaders’ Retreat

The BE Leaders’ Retreat is a flagship event that brings together leaders from across the Built Environment value chain for networking, sharing experiences, and gaining insights into the latest industry trends, while also shaping the future direction of the sector.

The retreat creates opportunities for connection and camaraderie. Teambuilding activities such as games and friendly competitions foster an environment for BE Leaders to get to know each other in a casual, relaxed setting and build stronger bonds.

Focus group discussions provide a platform for BE Leaders to explore ideas, address challenges, and engage with Political Office Holders.

Sharing sessions allow BE Leaders who are domain experts to highlight key industry transformation areas and share practical insights with peers.

Experiential learning journeys

Youth and Future Leaders are exposed to real-world projects through site visits and hands-on learning experiences. These learning journeys provide valuable insights into the latest construction technologies and industry best practices, all of which are guided by experienced practitioners. These experiences also help strengthen the budding leaders’ problem-solving skills while inspiring innovative thinking.

Informal chats

Small-group meet-ups in relaxed settings provide a welcoming space for relationships to grow and ideas to flow freely. These informal sessions foster deeper connections within the leadership community and encourage active peer-to-peer learning. Activities such as tea sessions and networking lunches also give Built Environment leaders the chance to engage meaningfully beyond formal settings.

Profiling and recognition

BuildSG LEAD provides leaders with a platform to showcase their achievements, strengthen their professional profile, and inspire the next generation of Built Environment talent. Through recognition and profiling initiatives, young and emerging leaders not only celebrate their successes but also motivate others to pursue meaningful careers in the sector.
