Virtual Inspection
Transform construction inspections with immersive 360-degree or LiDAR virtual site visits. 360 Capture and LiDAR create digital twins of construction sites, enabling project teams and inspectors to monitor progress and conduct thorough inspections remotely—eliminating physical site visits whilst maintaining quality and efficiency.

360 Capture and LiDAR scanning create virtual representations of construction sites, enabling project teams and inspectors to conduct comprehensive virtual inspections without needing physical site visits. A core part of ops-tech enabled inspections, 360 Capture and LiDAR allow inspectors to monitor site progress and document details efficiently.

To help industry reap the benefits of the virtual inspections, BCA has put in place virtual inspection workflows that provides a more efficient TOP process for project teams.
By allowing the project team to split the site into multiple scans for phased submission, QPs and project teams can check and submit each completed phase to BCA for review as soon as it is ready. This enables teams to start rectification works for the submitted phase earlier, while continuing with the remaining phases—giving them more time to plan and complete the necessary works. Teams can also apply similar feedback to upcoming phases, helping reduce abortive work.
With these workflow improvements and greater adoption of technology, projects using virtual inspections have achieved productivity savings of up to 60% in their inspection processes.
To date, more than 70 projects have completed virtual inspections with the support from our industry partners.
In action: Using 360 capture/LiDAR for virtual TOP/CSC inspections
Four Key Processes within Virtual Inspection
✏️ Assessing Project Suitability For Virtual Inspections
QP to assess the suitability of the project for Virtual Inspections based on this guide [PDF, 66.9 KB]
QP to approach BCA for pre-consultation for Virtual Inspection
BCA to confirm the Virtual Inspection (Full or Hybrid)
📷 Preparing for 360 Capture/LiDAR
Project Team obtains the necessary tools: 360 Capture/LiDAR platform, cameras and accessories
Project Team ensures that all works are completed and the captured areas are of a TOP-ready condition
Project Team ensures that site conditions are suitable for virtual capture
👷Conducting the Virtual Capture
QP to instruct the capture according to the Virtual Inspection Plan [XLSX, 933.99 KB]
Project Team to attach close-up measurements to demonstrate compliance based on this Virtual TOP photo checklist [XLSX, 392KB]
[For virtual inspection (LiDAR), QP is to save the measurement digitally on the platform according to the checklist.]QP to provide access for BCA to view the capture
🔎 Submission and Reviewing of the Scans for Virtual Inspection
BCA to review the capture and identify any of the following: Areas that require further clarification, non-compliance, and observations.
QP to attach supporting documents and clarifications in the 360 capture/LiDAR platform.
BCA to close the inspection if there are no further questions.
More details on the requirements for each step of the virtual inspection can be found at the 360 Capture guidebook [PDF, 1.0 GB] and LiDAR guidebook [PDF, 9.55 MB].
