Funding schemes to support Robotics & Automation in the Built Environment
Robotics & Automation (R&A) has been identified as a key enabler for industry transformation under the digitalisation pillar of the Construction Industry Transformation Map (ITM). Besides improving productivity, digitalisation can also help build up the Built Environment (BE) sector’s resiliency. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it even more pertinent for the need to reduce reliance on foreign workers to fill up low-skilled jobs. Adoption of autonomous R&A solutions by BE firms can potentially bring long-term sustainable benefits to the firms and the BE sector. Meanwhile, research & development could overcome issues that current solutions cannot solve today.
A list of funding schemes across Whole-Of-Government had been collated below to encourage the development and adoption of R&A solutions.

Cities of Tomorrow (CoT) R&D Programme | This programme is a multi-agency effort, led by the Ministry of National Development (MND), that seeks to sustain Singapore's success in the decades ahead by leveraging on Research and Innovation (R&I). It is supported under the National Research Foundation (NRF)'s Research, Innovation & Enterprise (RIE) efforts which are organised along 4 domains, with MND and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) co-leading the Urban Solutions and Sustainability (USS) domain. |
Cool Ideas Enterprise is an open innovation platform for innovators to co-develop solutions that improve the living environment and residents’ quality of life. We are looking for solutions in five focus areas– Energy, Urban Greenery, Living Environment, Water and Waste, and Building Technology – that can be piloted in our Living Labs island wide. Participants can benefit from funding support, mentorship, and access to facilities. | |

The Growth and Transformation Scheme (GTS) supports initiatives that build best-in-class capabilities and enable holistic transformation for value chains in the Built Environment sector. The GTS is designed to support a collective effort, by multiple partnering companies, to strengthen technical capabilities as well as corporate, digital and innovation practices, to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes over a sustained period. As such, it goes beyond project-specific support and enables companies to adopt a long-term view on business and workforce transformation. | |

The Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) helps Singapore companies grow and transform. This grant supports projects to upgrade businesses, innovate or venture overseas, under three pillars: 1) Core Capabilities, 2) Innovation and Productivity and 3) Market Access. | |
The National Research Foundation (NRF) Central Gap Fund (“Central Gap”) aims to support the translation of research outcomes into products, processes and/or services that generate economic and societal benefits for Singapore. The scheme provides a national-level platform to resource impactful projects and encourage collaboration across public research performers and/or industry. | |
Advanced Digital Solutions (ADS) | The aim is for solution providers to step forward with readily available R&A solutions to be funded through IMDA’s Advanced Digital Solutions (ADS) support that can meet the requirements of (1) reduce reliance of foreign labour and increase productivity and (2) increase safety. Successful BE SMEs and larger enterprises will be provided with up to 80% funding support for qualifying costs to adopt these integrated solutions. The R&A solution should align with the should align with the Robotics for Autonomous Construction and Facilities Management solution category described under the Construction and Facilities Management Industry Digital Plan. |
