Promising solutions for industry pain points

Some 22 companies presented solutions to address challenges in the built environment (BE) sector at the Built Environment Accelerate-to-Market Programme (BEAMP) Demo Day, held over three sessions during International Built Environment Week (IBEW) 2020.

Now into its second edition, BEAMP is an initiative by the Building and Construction Authority and is supported by Enterprise Singapore and JTC Corporation. This year, the call was for local and overseas innovation community to address challenge statements spanning thematic categories such as site management, facilities management and green innovation.

Here’s a look at three innovators who presented this year and whose ideas are currently in the BEAMP’s market development phase – that is, they are supported for downstream solution refinement, pilot deployment and technology investment.

A smart logistics solution for construction companies

Construction companies often face difficulties when it comes to managing and tracking the location of vehicles transporting materials to the work site. This often lead to late deliveries, congestion and bottlenecks.

Aespada Technologies’s delivery management system is a cloud-based tool that boosts productivity by helping contractors plan with a time slot management system and track the delivery of materials to work sites. The company is also working on an on-demand booking platform that connects construction companies to a network of logistics providers of heavy vehicles such as lorries, trailers and cargo vans. A cloud-based platform for low-cost and quick energy audits

Achieving greater sustainability in the built environment requires the building’s stakeholders to have a clear view of its lifetime energy performance. A collaborative ecosystem that allows all involved stakeholders to connect and share data can drive faster adoption of sustainable solutions.

Qi Square’s cloud-based platform aims to do just that. By leveraging building physics and artificial intelligence, it supports remote, quick and low-cost energy assessments for buildings, and intelligently match them to the most relevant solutions providers and experts.

A smart system for sorting construction materials

Crushed rock sand that is commonly used in the construction industry must be certified to meet the standards for sand replacement. Certification is traditionally a laborious and manual process.

Vebitss Smart Automatic Sorting System features advanced precision imaging technologies that automatically and accurately quantify material properties and sort construction materials.

It also utilises multispectral cameras, stereo cameras, 3D modelling and a vision-based measurement approach to automate tasks like elongation measurement and the separation of concrete from foreign objects.
