SLEB Smart Hub to accelerate green technology adoption

In efforts to reduce Singapore’s greenhouse gas emissions and to achieve the goal of 80% green buildings by 2030, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) launched the Super Low Energy Building (SLEB) Smart Hub in 2019 as a digital portal to connect building owners, consultants and contractors, researchers and technology providers on one platform.

Currently, the building sector accounts for approximately 20% of Singapore’s emissions. Green Building programmes, such as the BCA Green Mark Scheme and Super Low Energy Building Programme, have been implemented to reduce the environmental impact of buildings. To achieve sustainability targets, the industry has been actively looking to adopt innovative and cost-effective green technology solutions.

Filling the gap is SLEB Smart Hub, Singapore’s first digital knowledge centre for green buildings in the region, feature-filled with smart analytic tools, datasets, a directory and also the largest green building database in Singapore.

With SLEB Smart Hub, building owners are empowered on their green building journeys with data-driven insights on their buildings’ energy performance. Facility managers can benchmark the energy performance of their buildings to identify opportunities for improvement while building owners are enabled to source for the most suitable green technologies recommended by an AI tool. In turn, technology suppliers and innovators can use this platform to share information on the latest technologies.

Together, SLEB Smart Hub fosters Win-Win collaboration amongst stakeholders to overcome the information barrier and drive green building technology solutions. This reduces the cost and risk of applying technologies, and contributes towards the building sector’s environmental sustainability transformation.

Here’s a look at some of SLEB Smart Hub’s features:

Smart Advisor

Leveraging data across Singapore’s Green Mark buildings, the Smart Advisor creates actionable insights for building owners to meet their energy efficiency goals. Building data is benchmarked against similar or high-performing buildings to highlight any gaps and areas of improvement. Building owners can further evaluate a package of green technologies recommended by the Smart Advisor, and obtain predictive analytics on how much they will cost, and plan for future retrofitting exercises.

Building database

Members can access the energy data of more than 2,000 buildings in Singapore, with additional building information such as Green Mark rating, Ground Floor Area (GFA) and Energy Use Intensity (EUI), which indicates a building’s annual energy use per square metre of space.

Green building technology resource

The SLEB Smart Hub’s green technology directory and data dictionary let building owners find and learn more about the latest green technologies and products at their fingertips, which are constantly updated by new providers as membership grows. Industry stakeholders are also kept updated with news, events and other green technology updates.

Chiller Doctor

More tools and services are being developed and added to SLEB Smart Hub, including a Chiller Doctor developed by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and BCA. Currently in demo stage, the AI-driven chiller fault detector has shown the ability to identify major faults and recommend fixes based on data analytics.

To date, close to 300 companies in the built environment sector have benefitted from SLEB Smart Hub. Keppel Bay Tower, for example, identified and implemented five energy technologies that were sourced from the database and in an open challenge call. These technologies, including a smart lighting system and high-performance Air-Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation fan system, contribute to the building’s ambition as Singapore’s first Super Low-Energy High-Rise Commercial Building.
