While our operational focus is placed on delivering the project on schedule and keeping the sites incident and injury free, our desired outcome of quality building is always at the top-of-mind in all our undertakings.
- Mr Lim Chap Huat, Chairman, Soilbuld Construction
Established in 1976, Soilbuild Construction is a homegrown building contractor that has grown from strength to strength. From a team of less than ten to over 300 employees today, the Group is one of Singapore’s thriving contractors through its strategies of diversifying capabilities, internationalisation and the adoption of automated processes.

Award-winning excellence
In over 40 years, the Group has expanded its scope of services as a small contractor to include design and build contract services, turnkey construction and project management services. Projects undertaken by the Group range from factories and warehouses to business parks, residential buildings and churches. Many of its projects have achieved building excellence: Solaris, the state-of-art business park, won multiple accolades for its integrated green design including the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award and top honours at the Skyrise Greenery Awards.
Mr Lim Chap Huat, Chairman of Soilbuld Construction said, “While our operational focus is placed on delivering the project on schedule and keeping the sites incident and injury free, our desired outcome of quality building is always at the top-of-mind in all our undertakings”. The Group was further rewarded on its commitment towards providing quality service when one of its HDB projects, Cheng San Court at Ang Mo Kio, was announced a winner at HDB Awards 2018 with the Certificate of Merit (Construction).
Expansion and internationalisation
In 2012, the Group started to seek further growth opportunities by expanding its footprint overseas with its first venture into the Myanmar market. Since operating in Myanmar, the Group has secured more than nine construction projects there with a total contract value of approximately US$164 million and has built up a core construction team of more than 70 members. While the Group is poised to consolidate its presence in the Myanmar market, it is also actively exploring other emerging markets to propel its growth.
Beyond internationalisation, another of the Group’s key strategies to elevate its leadership position is to consistently sharpen its competitive edge by offering a differentiated spectrum of construction capabilities. This has led the Group to enhance its core construction expertise by offering civil engineering work since 2015. The Group has secured three civil work projects from the Land Transport Authority and JTC Corporation to date and is actively tendering for civil work projects locally with the aim to expand its capabilities to include other infrastructure projects such as road and tunnel works and sewage systems.

Leveraging technology for transformation
The Construction Industry Transformation Map (ITM) was co-created with the industry with the vision to transform the construction industry into an advanced and integrated sector with the widespread adoption of leading technologies, including Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA).
An Integrated Construction and Precast Hub (ICPH) is a key element for building supply capacity and capabilities in DfMA. In 2015, the Group tendered and won BCA’s third ICPH award. The Group’s ICPH – the Soilbuild Prefab Innovation Hub – was completed in December 2018 and is a fully automated offsite manufacturing facility for precast components.
Apart from DfMA, the Group will also seek to adopt and leverage smart technologies to create a more Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) platform. The Group believes that the successful implementation of available advanced technologies will support the creation of new opportunities and a clearer project delivery advantage in a competitive sector.
Building the future
Going forward, Soilbuild will invest in new technologies to continue its growth and better serve the industry. The next decade will see the Group develop a new and clear strategic direction with three key thrusts: first, disciplined growth in the local construction sector, second, furthering their presence in Myanmar and other new markets, and third, participating in sector transformation through the adoption of smart technologies and processes.
