Amendment in the specific registration requirements for registered lift contractors RW02

All lift contractors registered under RW02 (including ME09) are to note that the amendments to the specific registration requirements for lift contractors will be effected on 25 July 2016. All lifts must be maintained monthly in accordance with prescribed frequencies and codes/standards by a lift contractor registered by BCA under the Contractors Registration System (CRS). Registered lift contractors must also achieve a set of 20 maintenance outcomes during the monthly maintenance.

Existing criteria for revocation of registration Amended criteria (with effect from 25 July 2016)
BCA may revoke the registration of any approved lift contractor who is in the opinion of BCA, unable to effectively carry out its duties under the building maintenance and strata management regulations as an approved lift contractor. BCA may, with prior written notice to a lift contractor, censure a lift contractor, suspend or revoke the registration of any lift contractor in the following circumstances:

  1. the contractor has not complied with any of the requirements prescribed by BCA under Section II;
  2. the contractor, a director, partner or employee of the contractor has been convicted of an offence which, in the opinion of BCA, renders the company or firm unfit to remain registered;
  3. the contractor is, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Buildings, unable to effectively carry out its duties or carry out its duties with reasonable diligence, under the Building Maintenance and Strata Management (Lift, Escalator and Building Maintenance) Regulations;
  4. the contractor has carried out works in such a manner that will endanger the safety of the public or affect the structural integrity of building;
  5. the contractor has not complied with the relevant statutory requirements/regulations as stipulated by relevant statutory boards and authorities; or
  6. it is in the interest of public safety to do so.
