Built Environment Culture of Appreciation, Respect and Empathy (BE CARE) Charter

Introduction to the BE CARE Charter

The BE CARE Charter is a new initiative that spells out best practices that project teams or firms can adopt when interacting with colleagues and other project parties.

The Charter consists of three key pillars: (i) Openness and Respect, (ii) Smart Meetings and Communications, and (iii) Respecting Rest Periods. Together, these pillars guide project stakeholders to build stronger project partnerships and ensure stakeholders’ wellbeing.

Pledging Commitment to the Charter

As of the launch of the Taskforce Report, over 30 service buyers and BE consultancy firms have pledged their commitment to sign the Charter and adopt the principles therein either at the project or firm-level. The service buyers, firms and projects committed to adopt the BE CARE Charter are listed in the table below.

Service buyers and firms are encouraged to support this initiative to build stronger project partnerships and ensure the wellbeing of BE professions by committing to the Charter through this online form.

The Best Practices and Supplementary Guide provides a set of best practices on implementation.

Providing Feedback on BE CARE in Firms and Projects

The BE CARE Charter features a feedback channel for individuals to raise concerns. This includes observations of non-compliance that may erode partnerships and diminish wellbeing. Project leadership and senior management from each firm is encouraged to take an active role in overseeing the implementation of the Charter, which includes assessing any feedback received.

BCA will also be collecting feedback on the BE CARE experience through this online form.
