Woh Hup Technical Hub,located along Gul Street 5, adopted various DfMA technologies such as Mass Engineered Timber (MET), Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) and structural steel. MET was used to construct the 4-storey office building in the project. The total Gross Floor Area for the MET structure is 2,347m2.
Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam) was used for the columns and beams while Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) was used for the floor slabs. In total, about 300 tons of MET were used in the project. To enhance the acoustic performance, 10 mm granulated acoustic mat was installed directly on the CLT slabs and then installed over with carpet. This achieved an acoustic rating in the region of STC 44. The MET components were also treated on site for termite and water resistance.
As MET is lightweight and easy to install, the MET structure was completed in less than six weeks and had achieved productivity improvement of more than 20%. The MET installation rate was 7.1 m2/man-day, which was more efficient compared to conventional concrete structure. This is coupled with using simple machinery such as floor winch and cordless handheld tools.
