While buildings in Singapore are situated outside an earthquake zone, the buildings may, from time to time, experience tremors due to earthquakes near Sumatra, Indonesia. Nevertheless, Singapore’s buildings are designed to be sufficiently robust to withstand tremors caused by distant earthquakes.
What to do during earth tremors
When a tremor occurs, stay calm and take the following precautions:
- If you are indoors
- Take cover under a table
- Do not use a naked flame
- Do not use the lift
- If you are outdoors
- Remain in the open until the tremor stops
- Stay away from buildings
If you or others are injured, call the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) or the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
