Engineering Study on Substitution of Natural Sand with Granite Fines in Concrete Production

Under MND Cities of Tomorrow (CoT) R&D program, the project team, led by NTU and NUS, Temasek Polytechnic and American Concrete Institute –Singapore Chapter (ACI-SC), commenced an engineering study in April 2019 to study the adoption of granite fines in concrete production.

The objective of the study is to affirm the suitability and durability of using up to 100% granite fines to reduce the construction sector’s reliance on natural sand for concrete production. The study completed in Sep 2021, concluding that granite fines concrete possesses the same performance, if not better, compared to natural sand concrete.

The study’s report and recommended specification on the use of Granite Fines is appended for reference.
