Based on focus group discussions with leading DfMA firms, the key IDD use cases have been identified along the DfMA value chain.
These use cases are:
DfMA Configurator Tool – It is used by Architects/Engineers to optimize their designs based on standardized DfMA components to reduce variabilities.
Collaborative Production Planning Tool – It enhances collaboration between fabricators and main contractors to resolve coordination issues before production. It also links fabricators’ schedule to that of the main contractor to facilitate just-in-time production.
Digital Platforms for Submission and Approval – It stores all project BIM models and drawings digitally. It also maintains audit trails of digital document submission and approval processes.
Component Identification Tool – It generates identifications (such as QR codes) for DfMA components. Such identifications are linked to a database that captures production, delivery, and erection statuses of the components for tracking purposes. This information can be used for the generation of digital purchase and delivery orders and invoices.
Digital Inspection Platform – It allows the digitalization of QA/QC checklists for mobile app usage. The QA/QC data captured can be used for defect rectifications.
